Yes--I will stand by my statement. It(art or football or anything else) adds to quality of life. If you don't buy/use/see art does it mean your life is of a lower quality??? No, when I say it adds to quality of life that means that you use it because you find that is has value--The same value that McDonalds has or anything else you use or consume. If you don't see value/quality in football then you don't watch it or go to matches.
Freud has nothing to do with it. If any person does it is Adam Smith. High Art Vs. Pop Art is a debate/conflict that is very complicated. Books that are very very thick have been written on it. When I went to film school I had to read the **** so I know how dull it can be.
Good Luck

true art is usually also freely expressed (but not necessarily an expression of freedom)
when art is freely expressed it is a Good Thing IMO and adds to quality of life no doubt.
But government should not get involved in art, it is not what they are. How can you govern art and keep that freedom to express? (Millenium Dome, Man of the North, Millenium Tower ...)
too often today art is an expression of apeasement, manifested by a paying customer.

tsk indeed. good to see it creeping into advertising therefore developing a certain kudos for 'up north' which I'm sure improves the life of all involved ;-)

I agree--I don't think that the government should get involved either. Art is a form of expression. If the government gets involved then how are you to express your disagreements with that government???

yep, definitely fast food.
Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser, bottom half of page 48:
Susan Frank - from McDonalds to Fox Kids
Ken Snelgrove - from Burger King to MGM
Brad Ball - McDonalds to Warner Bros
John Cywinski - Burger King to Disney
all senior positions of course.
great film = hamburger

Miker--
I don't understand what you are trying to say. Movies are a business--Art is business and business is an art. If you aren't selling what you are making then you are not going to survive. What are you selling???
Do good hamburgers make good movies--In a way they do. If you can take a company and make it work well and make a profit--Then you are of value to other companies that want to make money. It doesn't matter what the product is.
I think this is a great discussion.
Art/Movies/Football/Beer are all the same they are products with a perceived value.
Good Luck
